Two panels in the same screen edge

Fri Mar 06, 2009 10:36 pm
Hi,

I would like to simulate behaviour of ObjectDock [1] with plasma panels.
I prefer to have taskbar visible and have Dock that either autohides and or better said, Windows can cover. So far I setup my panels like this [2].

When I try to reach some running processes in taskbar, the panel pop ups. It makes harder to select task I want to reach. I would like to make panel position start at the height of the panel that is below. Is that possible?

If not can I file a wish in bugzilla? Do you think it would be useful to setup panel position? So far we can setup height and screen edge...

I believe it cannot be done (yet) and only horizontal resizing can be done from both edges (while only from the non screen-edge end vertically).
This would definitely be a valid "wish". Maybe you'd want to wait till this weekend as we are planning to launch something here.. you'll get to know ;) (or maybe you already if you follow the kde-devel ML)

I'm not following kde-devel, I will wait patiently ;)

we probably won't ever support panel stacking (way too many edge cases, kicker was plagued with them) but we will likely provide support for creating stacks of widget in one panel. how hiding will work then is up for discussion (e.g. allowing "always show top row of widgets" as a hiding mode)

Happy to wait for stack of widgets,
it would be cool if it would be able to simulate the hidding behaviour of the ObjectDock ;)

By the way there is the new section "Brainstorm", moderators, could you move this there and give there mark either won't fix or something. Other people may be interested.

This thread is probably related too:

At least I had this idea in mind (from the thread):
