There appear to be 126 widgets/plasmoids on KDE-Look.org (http://www.kde-look.org/index.php?xcontentmode=70x77x78), yet, when I use the "Add Widgets" (top right of desk top) and then select "Install New Widgets", and then "Download From Internet", only 14 are listed??? Why is this? Can I make it point to where the widgets are? Any and all help appreciated - especially if you can solve this problem.
I have Kubuntu installed on one partition and Mint 6 KDE on another partition and it does it (only shows a few additional widgets from the internet) with both. |

Because the majority of the widgets are binary and must be compiled with the libraries that you are using, this means either you get them from your distro (and I would expect Kubuntu to have them, sometime there is a package of widgets - sometimes individually packaged) or compile them yourself.
and yes this is not obvious |

There were none other than the basic ones already in the installer. I found a PPA for a guy named Sam Rog, but most of the ones he had were for the unstable version of Kubuntu (Jaunty) and did not work with (Intrepid) which is the current. Is there a program that automatically compiles for you. I tried using Cmake, but always get some sort of fail message from it. As you can probably tell, I'm a Linux noob, so I get quickly out of my depth whenever I leave the GUI. It's scary to me that Kubuntu (I've used Mint as well), is considered the beginners version of Linux. |

no auto compile that I'm aware of and since this is more a Kubuntu issue you should consider posting in the official Kubuntu forums. You should also post the errors you're receiving when compiling as it's probably missing packages.
If you want to still use this forum it might help to start a new thread called "where do I find additional plasma widgets for Kubuntu?" There are some Kubuntu kde maintainers/developers here. |
