This is my situation, fresh install of slackware 12.2 and the used slackpkg to upgrade to -current. KDE loads fine and is running but cannot use kickoff menu style?? When its enabled K menu is blank brings up HOLLOW black square outline where menu should be also several prompts show up same way nothing but black ring.....
Anyhelp would be appreciated! Thanks |

Tried but nogo..... also tried complete removed KDE with kde 4 and kde removal script and reinstalll nogo, tried rm -rf ~/.fontconfig/, tried adding Option "RenderAccel" "False" to xorg.conf and none is working still just a empty box where menu should be can see black outline thats it.

If you are using 3D effects, please try disabling them

Desktop Effects are offf.... still same results..... cant turn them on either get error Check you x configuration.

This is very unusual. Please ensure that your installation is not damaged, and that all kdebase packages are installed.

Jus finished Checking, I have all KDE files installed that should be as far as i know... check off 2 different mirrors, still same problem.... |

Can you try using the classic menu? Menu Button > (Right Click) > Switch to classic menu.

Classic menu works fine, but some dialogs are blank squares, the devices menu right next to K menu is blank... Everything else seems to work good. |

If you are using NVidia or ATI, could you please try using the vesa driver and see if it has any effect? If it does, you may need to change the version of the driver you are using ( upgrade / downgrade )

SOLVED!!! Thanks for the Help, using vesa video driver fixed the problems so going to download and install fresh NVIDIA driver and try from there now that i know its a driver compatability problem.

*Update*
If anyone else runs into this problem, just INSTALL the nvidia Linux drivers or use vesa display drivers for X. |

That's the easy fix. However, I would still like to find out why these empty menus with just the border visible show up when using the 'nv' driver and nowhere else. In KDE 4.2.2 (soon to hit slackware-current) this evil has not gone away. If anyone has an idea I'd like like to know... Eric |
