I have just upgraded to KDE 4.2.2, on openSUSE 11.1. Am using GNOME & Xfce alongside KDE. Though GNOME & XFCE have the option for 'Suspend' & 'Hibernate', I do not find a similar option in KDE 4.2.2 (Release 111), when clicking on 'Leave' (Main Menu). It was the same in KDE 4.1.3 as well.
I use the 'Classic Menu Style' (Pict 1) of the Menu Launcher (similar to Windows XP), and on clicking on 'Leave' there is no option for Hibernate/Suspend either in the Main Menu (classic style) or in the pop-up box that appears after clicking 'Leave' (see Pict 2).
However, on changing the Application Launcher Menu to 'Kickoff Style' I get those options under 'Leave' tab on the right. However, I prefer the Classic Menu style. How can I get these options in the KDE Main Menu-Classic Style ?
The 'Suspend' (not 'Hibernate') option is present in KDE 3.5.10 (Classic Menu Style) and works well. (Picts 3 and 4)

On the right of the option 'turn of computer' there is a little arrow. Click and hold and you will get a little drop down menu with suspend and hibernate as options.
Another possibility is adding the battery monitor plasmoid to the panel. Click it and you get the option to sleep or hibernate.

I don't find any "turn off computer," in my KDE 4.2, in Fedora.
What I find in Kickoff-> Leave is a selection of:
Logout Lock screen Swich User Suspend to RAM Suspend to disk Restart Shutdown
Are we talking about the same menu? If so, I don't see any Hibernate there.
Do you consider Suspend to Disk as Hibernate?
Not sure if they're the same thing.

I was talking about the shutdown menu you get when pressing Ctrl-Alt-Del
Thanks.
However, what I'am getting on my laptop when pressing Ctrl-Alt-Del is a pop-up with three options:
Logout (with an arrow pointing down to the right of it) Turn Off Computer Restart Computer
If I am clicking on Logout or that arrow to the right of it I'm told that the logout process will start in 30 seconds, I don't see any options re Suspend to RAM/Disk.
Click on the arrow next to 'Turn of computer' and hold for two seconds.
If that does not work, well, you can use the options you get when you click 'Leave'. But my guess is that it works. If the arrow is next to 'Turn of computer' that means there are several shutdown options that you can invoke via the arrow.

First, it's 'Turn off computer' I'm insisting on it because I thought you may have another version of the KDE.
2nd, that's not an arrow, it's something like a bowl/cup with a stick in it:-) An arrow is what's to the right of Logout.
3rd, after clarifying all of this, it worked.
Thanks.

1st - well excuse my typo 2nd - I was not referring to the shutdown icon, but the triangular shaped little object sitting to the left of it 3rd - great

Thanks, that did the trick. On keeping the left-mouse click on the "Turn Off Computer" button for a few seconds, the Suspend/Hibernate options appeared (see attached image). The KDE 'Classic Menu' style launcher ('Kickoff Style' launcher has the options in the main menu itself) should have the Suspend & Hibernate options on the main shutdown button itself (like GNOME & Xfce do), as many users are not aware that one has to keep the mouse clicked on the 'Turn Off Computer" button to get these options.

I did not add the 'Battery' plasmoid as this is a desktop PC, and not a laptop.
