Sounds like a problem with your plasma (screen) settings. It quite often happens with Opensuse 11.1 when upgrading to kde 4.2.2. I find the best way to sort out this problem is to remove the plasma settings from:-

/home/#yourname#/.kde4/share/config

To access this folder you need to change your settings to show 'hidden files' (use the view option in Dolphin). There are two plasma config files just rename these by adding 'old' to the name).

Then log-out and then back-in. This will then recreate your screen settings - which should then be fine.
