How to add program launcher to task bar?

I am having trouble inserting icons in the lower bar in kde4. If I send a shortcut to the bottom panel from the menu, it ends up on the right side and the icon does not appear movable. How can I place icons in the position I want them?

Drag and drop (from application menu, desktop etc.).
If you want to move items in the panel, first unlock widgets and then click on the yellow icon  on the panel (right side). Now you can move widgets in the panel with drag and drop.Edit: Also, see this screencast.
