Hi you all,
I couple of days ago I made a post on blog about the mockups I've managed to draw of the New Widgets Explorer. Btw, I'm a gsoc student and my project is to re-build the Add Widgets dialog at plasma. Someone left me a tip to bring the discussion here, to the forum. I thought that was a great idea, and so I am here! Thanks for the tip, Hans! Here is the post: http://www.wouwlabs.com/blogs/anniec/?p=59 Hope to get your feedback! annieC |

Very cool that you decided to post a thread here annieC!
However, I must say that I'm rather disappointed to see that no one except bcooksley has replied. I know that many forum members love to brainstorm, so let's hope more people will share their ideas here. It might help to post a teaser image with the [img] tag.

I find the new widget explorer really well thought and as someone already said in the comments it fills really great the gap between the panels and the desktop. That said, I would like to know what happends when there is more than one panel, and also what if there is no panel at all. The first case is not so unlikely to happen and the second, with the plasmoids is also a possibility...
Thinking in usability i find the left/right arrows very small. I know that making them bigger would look like they are plasmoids, maybe a desaturated icon would make the trick. Also it would be good to have a scrollbar, as it's not only used to move but also gives you information about how many items there are. And in a just stetical side, i'd prefer the text without the blue background. Congratulations and thank you for your great job, it's a pleasure to know you finished it, with the lack of updates on your blog I thought you had stopped to work on it, can't wait to see it working . |

The samples are drawn by hand i don't understand quite well the idea. Could someone recommend a software to draw widgets (i also need it sometimes) to be able to redraw the samples?

You don't need to draw them yourself by hand, they are already finished, see the latest entry on her blog: http://www.wouwlabs.com/blogs/anniec/?p=95
(And if you like to do widgets yourself, try qtdesigner) |

It's already in trunk, so you'll see it in KDE 4.4.
