I have a small issue and I'm not sure if it's a bug or if it just can't be done.
-OR-
if it's just me.

What I really really want is the ability to have two system trays on two panels that both display the same information.

Obviously out of the box install the first panel has the system tray displayed with no issue:

So then I make the second panel:

(in this case I already added the task bar):

Then I add the system tray widget:

(Bad system tray! Bad Bad Bad)

Here is what it looks like when I make a new panel and add nothing but the system tray widget:

As you can see the system tray takes up the how panel but noting is displayed. I can right click on and set the properties. Amarok, Clipboard and Volume are in the visible window (Not hidden) and they are visible on the system tray on the first panel. I would expect that the system tray widgets would all display the same information. Thats why I upgraded from 3.x to 4.2. In 3.x I didn't even have the option of adding a second system tray.

EDIT:This works both ways. If I take the system tray off the first panel and then add it to the second panel the second panel displays it just fine, adding a second system tray back to the first panel will show the same symptoms as described above.

I've been using KDE consistently since 2.0. In my job I try other window managers daily and get to see how they progress. I've always stayed with KDE for my machines. I realize 4.x is a major redesign, I don't like how some things have changed but I like how other things have improved. The other issues/suggestions/questions I have will be put in other threads if I don't see them addressed anywhere else. Keep up the good work, KDE has come a long way.

This problem is fixed with the new systray present on KDE 4.3. However applications that do not use the new systray protocol will still be affected by this problem. So the deal is: after kde 4.3, applications that implements the new protocol will not present this bug you see and will be able to be present on two system trays. Some applications were already ported like krandrtray and kmix.

Cheers,

hmm... it sounds like you're saying that you will be able to have two systrays with the same configuration on two different panels? or can each systray selectively have its own applet configuration? (is "applet" the right term for an internal systray icon?).
