I administer a network of about 80 machines for 300 users. I want to add to (and perhaps modify or remove) applications in the default Kickoff (and classic view) start menu, so that users can find the added apps. I'm not sure where Kickoff gets its information to build the menu (other than what the local user adds) and would appreciate any help. I've tried several things, but nothing has worked yet. I've looked thru the forums and at online documentation, but have not seen this question addressed except for the local user. I'm using kubuntu jaunty, with kde 4.2.

You can add System wide applications under /usr/share/applications/. They can be in any subfolder I believe, since all are scanned.

Thanks, that worked. I had tried adding a .Desktop file for the app before but had not done it correctly.
