The kickoff icon (with a K) and the proper logout icons do not show for some existing users. I've tried deleting ~/.kde and /tmp files and dirs. In fact, I've even tried deleting all files (hidden and otherwise) in some user's directories and it still does not work. For the kickoff icon, I get an arrow pointing left. For "leave" and all the logout options I get an icon of a computer system. I'm using Kubuntu 9.04 with all updates applied. Note that it seems to work OK for some users on the same machine. I cannot figure this out. A solution is most welcome, but I'm also interested in "me too" comments.
Edited update: I've discovered that I can get the "K" icon back by adjusting the height of the panel (so that one seems to be size related - weird). However, nothing seems to get the leave/logout/halt/restart/etc... icons back. Screen resolution is 1280x1024 - seems like a normal enough size and there is no way to resize the logout options dialog (or the kickoff-style popup menu) that I can tell. |

Sounds like a corrupted icons cache...
You may need to logout and back in for it to have an effect.

The icon problem for the user I was working on yesterday seemed to magically solve itself overnight. I eventually found another user with the problem and that fix alone did not work. However after then deleting a couple of config directories in the home directory (.kde and .qt) *and* applying that fix *and* logging off, then on again - everything was fine. I will try to do more testing but it's a bit troubling that the problem fixed itself for the one user.
