I've found a bug within the latest RCs of KDE 4.3 and compiz 0.8.2. Plasma panels, usually maximixed both in height and width with auto hide does not appear when compiz is running. When i move the mouse to the side in order to make it appear again, a purple "halo" that intensifies for the same time duration it would take the panel to appear becomes visible instead. If i turn on kwin, then the panel appear normally.
I've posted this bug at compiz fusion forums http://forum.compiz-fusion.org/showthread.php?p=74469 and one of the developers (b0le) had a hard time guessing what causes this. I posted here because plasma panels in general are acting quite weird in the latest RCs of KDE 4.3... Anyone who can help on what causes this? |

Is this reproducible under a new user?

Yes, I reproduced this under a virtual machine and another person (b0le - compiz dev) reproduced it. |

Ok mate, I've submitted this to the KDE bugtracker: https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=202916
I hope some of the devs will look into it, I belive in a coexistence between KDE and compiz |

My mind is blown actually to find that the developers have have blown this off and made the status a "Wont Fix".
Here is the link to the bug report. https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=202916 Pretty unreal considering IT WORKED FINE IN KDE 4.1!!! Funny how all of the sudden in a new version of KDE it doesn't work, but it's somehow Compiz's problem. I'm so fed up with having to slam my mouse against the edge of the screen, I'm about to switch to Gnome until the devs start caring again. Anyway, I'm not sure who else to even go to here. Thought Linux and OSS was supposed to be a community project, when really, it just seems like we're at the mercy of the developers. I can guarantee, and pardon my French, that Microsoft would put out a patch on something this ludacris... no, they wouldn't have released it that way in the first place, and if you called them on it, they wouldn't just say "oh well, yes, it worked before and now after an upgrade it doesn't, but we don't care, so you can just deal with it." Sorry to rant, I'm pretty peeved. PS, I've also noticed that when the kickoff bar is hidden, some programs will seem to be under it's open region still and the mouse pointer will change to the regular cursor from the program's cursor. i.e. the mouse cursor will change from the program you're running to the regular desktop cursor when you move your mouse to the top of the screen where the kickoff bar would normally be if it was not hidden (as in the menu bar of the program). Plasma and/or KDE obviously did something here that they're either unaware of or don't know how to fix. |

@Erik765: It was more than likely the Compiz upgrade that you recieved around the same time that cause this. As aseigo stated, it is a Compiz / X problem, not a Plasma / KDE problem.

Nope, I don't get my compiz from the repositories. It's installed manually, and it's only upgraded when I manually upgrade it.
It broke for 'and others' when I upgraded to KDE 4.3 Nothing at all changed with Compiz, everything changed with KDE. That's when it broke. Aseigo obviously said his peace and has no interest in participating since he's gotten every one of the posts since he shoved it off and not responded to one of them. |

I have the exact same problem,
Compiz 0.8.4 kde 4.3.2 autohidden panel only comes some times, but after reading this, the setting is atleast usable: (Comment from John66, http://forum.mandriva.com/viewtopic.php?p=777095#777095 ) "...The only thing I found to make it work, every time I turn on my pc, is to click on the icon at the upper right corner of the screen (I believe it is called "Kicker"), the menu appears and I select "Shortcut Settings", the window "Configure Shortcuts - Plasma Workspace" appears and I just close it. That's it, the auto-hide feature of the panel works from that time without a problem... until the next time I turn on my pc. I know it's not the answer to the problem, but it helps to use the auto-hide feature of the panel... " Doing the above actually does make the autohide function work properly, but, it is as you can see no real solution. Cheers, Mattias |
