I had all my plasmoids set up how I wanted them last night after discovering that I could have plasmoids only on the dashboard. After rebooting all of those widgets were gone, in the Add Widgets dialog they were supposedly still there even though I couldn't see them. I zoomed out and clicked on Configure Plasma and the option for use a separate dashboard was no longer checked.
I've searched around and can't find a fix for this. It seems my plasma-appletsrc file is not being updated at all. And just now while writing this post I've lost all those widgets again after setting them up. This is the second time I've had trouble with things staying persistent in kde, last time it was with GTK styles. Any help? There are a couple of bug reports for this, but no solutions. I'm not filling out a bug report either because they are often useless, what's the manual way of making these plasmoids stick? Edit: Strange thing I have just discovered, when changing activities with just the shortcuts I see way more activities than when I zoom out. There are only two when I zoom out but I browse through a ton with just the keyboard shortcut. I don't even see the activity that I see when I zoom out. And I found the plasmoids I lost just recently as an activity. What's going on everything is mixed up? |

If you're using KDE 4.3 RCX, know that you shouldn't look at plasma-appletsrc anymore, but at plasma-desktop-appletsrc instead. Did you try moving away (when Plasma is not running) the files plasma-desktoprc and plasma-desktop-appletsrc? If you're not comfortable with losing settings, can you try if you see the problem with a fresh user account?

Well yeah I was looking at those files that might have been the problem. I put a sticky note on the dashboard last night and it's still there after the reboot so I guess everything's working now.
I looked in plasma-desktop-appletsrc and saw a ton of containments that would explain for all the extra activities I see when using the keyboard shortcut, should I just delete that file all together? |

If you delete plasma-desktop-appletsrc while Plasma is running it will have no effect, since Plasma will recreate it on shutdown. By removing the file without Plasma running you will erase your Plasmoid layouts and configuration.
