Hi,
I can't find an obvious way to create an icon/shortcut on the desktop to launch a specified command. I know I can right click an existing icon on the KDE launcher and choose "copy to desktop", but what if the program I am trying to launch is not there? For an program that is indeed listed (firefox), I can create such an icon but I can't rename it. No matter what I enter in the text fields in the "icon settings", the name of the icon always remains as "firefox web browser". Any idea? I'm using Kubuntu 9.04. Thanks! |

The easiest way is probably to first add it to the menu. Rightclick on the kmenu, and choose menu editor. Command and name should be filled in, but the rest are optional. Can't help you with the rest, sorry. I just noticed myself the problem of renaming icons.

The names come from the corresponding .desktop files. If you have a standard desktop, they should be on ~/Desktop.
Find the corresponding file and edit it in your favourite text editor, edit the Name=xxx entry, or even GenericName=xxx or GenericName[<langcode>]=xxx in case you are using a localized version of KDE. That will change your icon title on folderview. |
