I am running Kubuntu 8.04 with KDE4. Whenever I install an update to KDE4 my widgets break. I don't understand whats going on. But the widgets just appear as small round black dots. When I right click on them, the option to remove is there, but it says "unknown applet." I had this same problem with the 32 bit version. Is this a distribution problem, or something in the KDE code?
This just gets very frustrating because I use a lot of widgets on my desktop. Anybody have any solutions? Thanks Alex |

Those widgets are probably third-party ones that haven't been rebuilt on the PPA after a KDE update that broke binary compatibility. I assume that you still have a working panel, etc, or else everything would be broken. It would be nice to know exactly what widgets do this, so that they can be thrown up for a rebuild.

I have no idea why that happens, I get that as well with some widgets. I dont really use widgets on my machine so I never looked into the problem.

The extragear-plasma package is very very old, and will not work with KDE 4.1.x. It was replaced by kdeplasma-addons in KDE 4.1.
Please use that. |
