How to add an icon in the task bar

Wed Oct 15, 2008 8:47 pm
Hello,

I've tried to add an icon in the task bar, but without success.
I have right clicked and clicked on configure ... a menu has appeared but once I click on an icon on the desktop to drag it on the task bar, the "configuration state" of the task bar disappears.
If I drag the icon on the task bar without right clicking on the configure ..., the icon fells behind the task bar.
How can I do ?

I am using the alternative Lancelot menu, not the default Kickoff. In Lancelot, you are able do drag an application from the menu to your plasma panel, or do your desktop if you wish. You may be able to do the same thing with Kickoff or the Simple Menu.

dragging an application from the menu to the plasma panel or to the desktop works, but I can't drag any icon on the task bar.
I don't know neither how to remove an icon, it's absolutely not intuitive !

Oh, to move a plasmoid on the taskbar, first click on the "cashew" at the far right side. Now, when you hover over items in the taskbar, you will get a cross arrow as your mouse pointer. Now you can click and drag an item to another location.

To remove it, right click on it (with the cashew not pressed), and select "Remove this Icon".

OK, for removing an icon, it works. I was too focused on the cashnew thing.
But to move an icon from the desktop to the task bar, I'm still stuck.

Instead of dragging the actual icon, drag the toolbox that appears when you hover your mouse over it. When you drag it down to the panel, it will change to the icon with a white box as a background. You can then drag it to wherever you want it on the panel.

OK, if I drag the icon by the "gray bar" and put it in the task bar, it works.
I just have to resize the icon in the task bar (too small).

Thanks for your advices,

Have a nice day,

Glad I could help.

Yeah, I got some small icons too, maybe it's a bug in plasma?

Also, I don't think that there's any way to move the icon back to the desktop after it has been moved to the panel, without of course removing the icon and creating a new one.

But now, I learned that icons can still be added to the desktop. I thought that that feature was completely removed when the folderview plasmoid was made.

Yes it's a bug in plasma. Yesterday, I finally managed to put some icons in the task bar. The icons where small.
Today, after a restart of my computer, the icons have the right size. I have done nothing special to change the size of the icons.
