In kde 3.5 I can select the picture in the list and the preview appears instantly on the right side whereas in kde 4.1 if you select the picture in the list the file selection window closes assuming that this is the picture you want as your background. The only way I can see what the picture looks like before selecting it and inevitably closing the file selection window is by hovering mouse cursor over it and thus loosing around 1 second per picture. So for example if there are 10 pictures in the directory and I can't remember the name of the picture I have to start hovering over them and wait for the preview to appear on the right - in the worst case this means 10 seconds loss compared to kde 3.5.

That sounds like a bug, however if you click on the file selection area, then use the keyboard up / down keys then it works like before ( and you can scroll faster too )
and you just hit enter to accept.

You can click on them with control key pressed, then it would select the file but won't close the file selection dialog.

Also, with KDE trunk, all files have inline previews (with adjustable sizes), so you can find the one you're looking for at a glance

That's nice, but what about mouse clicks on the pictures? Still closing file selection window? The existence of "Open" button above "Cancel" hints that maybe indeed file selection window should not close after single click on the image and this is merely a bug, not conscious design choice. |

Clicking here does not close the dialog. This might be because I always use "double-click to select" in KDE, though.

I have a dumb question - in regards to wallpaper - is it possible to have different wallpaper for each desktop. In KDE3 it is possible, yet I cannot find how to set that up in KDE4. I know this may be non-issue to some, but it is something that I personally like to have set on my desktops.
Unique customization is one of the features for Linux, right |

AFAIK, no. Not sure if it will be back in 4.2 and/or if distributions have started backporting it. P.S. You know you could have started a new thread for this question, right?

Thanks for the reply. It seems to be something that not a lot of people want since it does not play nice with Compiz. Since I do not use that it was a nice feature to have. Yes I know that I could have started a new thread - but it seemed to fit here. Thanks again |

Actually, very few KDE4 users actually use compiz anymore, since KWin now has compositing effects.

Gee, you guys are lucky! I can't even find a place to add wall paper. I moved over from Ubuntu and figured I would use the same folder full of my personal photographs as wall paper. Can't find out how to do it yet. Anyone want to help?

Cashew > Desktop Settings > Type > Slideshow. You should now be able to add the folders containing your Wallpapers and set an image change time.
