I was thinking, to keep stuff neatly organized, to have a list of user-requested features that have been done / are in progress for KDE 4.2. This is to reduce the amount of questions, and also to keep tracks of things (I won't update the Plamsa FAQ with 4.2 material until Beta 1 is out).

  • Panel autohide
  • Folder View as desktop view ("old style")
  • Arrange/sort items on the desktop
  • Containment switching
  • Grouping and movement of items on the taskbar
  • Multi-row taskbar
  • Custom plasma themes based on installed themes ( certain elements from each )
  • Moving applets from panel to desktop
  • GUI with the ability of adding shortcuts to applets
  • Taskbar items highlighting (e.g. when a task needs attention)
  • System tray icon hiding
  • Activities linked to virtual desktops (EXPERIMENTAL, no GUI)

These are the ones I remember (not using SVN right now), if you know more please reply and I'll add them.

Of course Plasma has much more features, this thread is not meant for a list of Plasma features, but more to provide answers to common questions.

This looks very handy. Stickying so that it can be easily seen.

Two plasma features I was quite pleased to see will be in 4.2 are hiding icons in the system tray and making it more obvious which taskbar items are selected/need attention.
