Is it possible to set up your multiple desktops to share 1 desktop to one user and another desktop to another user up to say 32+ desktops and 32+ users? (such that one user/invitee only has access to their desktop and the admin/inviter has access to all 32 desktops as normal)
This would provide 1. Quick and dirty method for setting up thin clients that would be much leaner on server resources. 2. Administrative monitoring capabilities similar to iTALC - with fewer resource requirements. (beneficial in classroom environments) 3. Real time group collaboration on resource demanding projects such as video editing. 4. Many more ancillary benefits.

If you were going to use it as a thin client, then you could just limit a user to one concurrent logon at a time. Alternatively, you could customize the global logon script to logout a user if they are not allowed to logon at that terminal, but it would be a pain to manage.

I guess I need to describe what iTALC is
This really does nothing more than the KDE with desktop sharing except that it can be multiple different users (and requires a lot more CPU and RAM resources) Implementing "multiple desktop sharing" in a similar fashion could accomplish the same thing in a much more efficient manner. If anyone is familiar with this particular source code in KDE - please advise on the level of difficulty. |

No expert, but my hunch is that opening 32 concurrent desktop sessions via vnc would take some huge resources.... Still it remains an interesting thought.
You might have a look at web based options like vyew or yuuguu, but I have no idea if you can setup multiple sessions via any of them. I recall something called CoolCollaborator. It is a java based app that allows multiple users to share screens at the same time. The underlying protocol is vnc by the way.

You cannot however control access to Multiple desktops. it is not designed for that and is designed to streamline a single users workflow. i would strongly discourage that because each user would have access to the all files.
