I wanted to add an icon to my Grafix activity desktop.
Through folderview I got in on the desktop, however after a reboot it was gone. So with great anxiety I made ~/.kde/share/config/plasma-desktop-appletsrc writeable again. I then installed the new icon and made the rc file read only again. After a reboot the icon was still there and nothing got clobbered. Gerard.

Yes, Gerard, that is the process you will have to go thru EVERY time
you make a minor change to your desktop. Locking this file is simply an unworkable solution. Rather than provide poor work-arounds and excuses for the KDE team to ignore this issue by posting this half baked solution all over the web, here and in Gentoo, you should be LOUDLY filing bug reports at KDE.org. As for your other suggestion, I'm still trying to understand why I would need to install MC to manipulate permissions. I've been managing permissions and editing configuration files since the Pleistocene without any ancient DOS-look-alike tools. |

jsamyth why don't you rewrite the code for plasmadesktops?
Why do you derogate a fine piece of Linux tool like mc? In an earlier post I wrote that I filed a bug. Of course you had to make a sarcastic remark about that too. At least I found a workaround that works which is a hell of a lot more than what you accomplished! What distro do you use? Thanks to Gentoo I'm able to use the CLI and know how things work and make intelligent guesses where to look. You'd be better off using M$ Windows. ubuntu:an African word meaning Gentoo is to hard for me. Gerard.

Please, don't attack other members of the forum. It's uncalled for, and unproductive to boot.
