Hello!
I want to know if there is a way to have that buttons that already are on kickoff (Suspend to RAM / disk ) on desktop , too.
I like the way how it can make a widget just dragging and dropping from kickoff to desktop (well, I think now is plasma desktop)
The lock/logout plasmoid is very handy but would be more if would have the suspend option, too.
I'm not a hacker but I want to know if it is possible to edit some files or such to have that option in that lock/logout plasmoid?
I use Gentoo linux (KDE 4.3.1), so I'm not scared to edit some files.
By the other hand I think I'm not so skilled to write my own plasmoid.
Thank you!
Daniel

I don't think that's possible - at least not using the logout plasmoid. Reporting it as a wishlist to bugs.kde.org might be a good idea though.

It should be possible to write a shell-script that suspends the computer though. Add that script to kickoff and then it would be easy to just add it as an icon to the panel.

Hi Kryten!
Thank you for the fast replay!
Well, my "big" issue is that I don' know how to write a script. I'm just a simple user. Being a gentoo user might looks that I should know ...but that isn't true. Gentoo is that simple as a paste/copy job ;D

I'm not much of a script-writer either...

But you can try this if it's available in Gentoo. It's available in Suse and Ubuntu at least.

/usr/lib64/hal/scripts/hal-system-power-suspend

Haven't tried the script myself, but it's there at least together with shutdown, reboot, and hibernate scripts.

Hello again,

I finally solved my problem.

Before to start this thread, I do want to do something like Kryten2X4B suggested but for that it was supposed to install sudo, which I don't want, because # hibernate-ram , need to be ran as root.
Well, knowing that I don't have sudo but I have working buttons on kickoff menu, I made the deduction that is another command responsible for suspend. So I needed to find that command.
I found it on gentoo forum (only for suspend to run) :
Code: Select all
# dbus-send --system --print-reply --dest=org.freedesktop.Hal /org/freedesktop/Hal/devices/computer org.freedesktop.Hal.Device.SystemPowerManagement.Suspend int32:0

I made a new entry in kickoff and then I dragged it to descktop ....TA DAA !!! Now I just need a single click on that icon for suspend to RAM !
I think I wouldn't place a suspend to disk button on desktop because I us it just when I go to bed when night come :z when is possible that the power to be break down .
Cheers !
