I'm working on a plasma interface for kopete. See first screens here:

I need this scrollwidget to use all available place. I need that when it is in the panel (screen 2) and when it is opened as a popup (screen 1). But I don't want that only when the place is needed. When the contact list is shorter than the available place, I want the size of the entrys to be fixed.

I see that I have to adjust the preferredSize of the widget. But where do I get the correct size from, to which I can set the preferredSize?

Is this plasmoid using a Layout? Layout's automatically handle the resizing of widgets, as their parents size changes.
