Dear All,

I'm testing the new plasma-netbook using kubuntu 9.10.
My question is the following: how can I deactivate plasma-netbook and activate plasma-desktop without uninstall plasma-netbook?
In other words I would like to have plasma-desktop instead of plasma-netbook when I login (without kill the process and then launch with terminal).

In KDE 4.4 there is a configuration utility to change this.

You can try this:

ALT+F2 -> kquitapp plasma-netbook
ALT+F2 -> plasma-desktop

kubuntu 10.04 AMD64 - KDE 4.4
AMD - radeonHD - M-Audio revolution 5.1

The switching solution (Alt+F2....) has to be done for each login. Any solution to make plasma-desktop the default at startup?

You can create a bash script and put it in .kde/Autostart, like:
Code: Select all
#!bin/bash
kquitapp plasma-netbook
plasma-desktop

I decided to remove plasma-netbook, but now, when I login I get a black screen and I have to activate plasma with ALT+F2 -> plasma-desktop

How can I do to get back plama-desktop as default desktop?

I'm using kubuntu 9.10 that uses KDE 4.3.4.
Thanks

Create a desktop file named "plasma-desktop.desktop" in ~/.kde/Autostart with the following contents:

Code: Select all
[Desktop Entry]
Exec=plasma-desktop
X-DBUS-StartupType=wait
Name=Plasma Desktop Workspace
Type=Service
X-KDE-StartupNotify=false
OnlyShowIn=KDE;
X-KDE-autostart-phase=0

Created the file and restarted. Went into plasma-netbook & this error:"Error launching /home/xxxxx/.kde/Autostart/plasma-desktop.desktop. Either KLauncher is not running anymore, or it failed to start the application."

I simply created TWO files in ~/.kde/Autostart and it works:

plasma-desktop1.desktop

Code: Select all
[Desktop Entry]

Exec=kquitapp plasma-netbook
Type=Service

plasma-desktop2.desktop

Code: Select all
[Desktop Entry]

Exec=plasma-desktop
Type=Service
