Hello
I don't exactly know where to post this since it is a problem with plasma and/or maybe kwin. I am using KDE 4.3.3 on Archlinux on a HP elitebook notebook. Everything is actually working very well except plasma together with docking station and external screen. The notebook has a resolution of 1280x800pixels and the external screen 1920x1080. When I login, I usually have the same resolution of as the notebook screen on the external. That is easily fixed by opening systemsettings and clicking on "Display" (I just have to open it, no changes!). But then plasma often shows a black background which is brain-dead, means no right click, no wallpaper, no plasmoids. But, in the upper left corner I see a part of wallpaper that belongs to the smaller notebook screen. I had to delete plasma-appletsrc to get it working which contained this:
Of course that is bit annoying to do that. So the question is: Can I somehow configure KDE to recognize the docking station/external screen on the login? That would avoid adjusting it all the time. Is it possible to teach plasma that there are two resolutions, one with external screen, one on the notebook? I would file a bug report but it seems a bit random since it doesn't happen every time and also not always on login but also when I used the computer, put it in sleep mode and wake it up again after connecting to the docking station. Thanks for any input, dcrabs

If you have the application "krandrtray" running on Login, then the settings of the Display KCM will be automatically applied.

It looks like Plasma has become very confused. Try restarting it when this occurs:

I do that every time but it doesn't help. Restarting KDE doesn't help either. I am not sure yet but I think creating an empty plasma-appletsrc solves it.

This is most definitely a bug in Plasma then, or your system configuration is damaged. Please report a bug at bugs.kde.org if starting a new set of configuration files and trying to reproduce is successful.

Hi Dcrabs,
I have got many queries written in my diary regarding the problems with Plasma. I will add your as well. I have no idea whether your query has been sorted out or not as it's been a long time you have posted here. Though I might get back in a week time with the suggestion and the feedback regarding the plasma. I hope by that time I might be in a good condition to sort out your query as well. Cheers. |
