sometimes i have the normal 'cashew' and sometimes i have a small one that says 'desktop' under it, printed vertically on the bias.
When i get the small one with text ('desktop'), i only have two (2) menu choices, Add Widgets and Desktop Properties... if i mess around, properties, plain desktop, apply, desktop, apply.. click on the cashew again and again i will eventually get the full menu and the word 'desktop' will, for a while, go away... What's going on here?

p.s., it's different on each desktop (this i get, i have it set that way) and this may have something to do with it, my taskbar Never remembers it's in AutoHide mode... comes and goes, particularly on reboot.

This is the Desktop Dashboard. This brings your desktop widgets to the top of your screen. You can make it dissapear by clicking on the "Desktop Dashboard" text.

It's hard to understand what you mean. Could you please provide some screenshots?
My guess is that you've dragged the cashew for some activities. Try to do this when the widgets are unlocked:



Unless the cashew is in a corner, it'll show the name of the activity (in the screencast above the activity doesn't have a name). The content of the toolbox depends on the current activity (desktop type).

As far as I know, the Plain Desktop type is distro-specific and isn't shipped by default with KDE Software Compilation 4.3.x.

i figured out what the 'cashew' with 'desktop' was.. you can move the cashew and if you do (by accident), it says 'Desktop'.

plasma desktop still fncking up!!!!!!!!

After this reboot, the 'plasma' desktop from desktop 1 is now on desktop 5... What the Fnck?
