Stop desktop icons?

Sun Jan 03, 2010 10:09 pm
Hi,

Finally got around to getting 4 to run just about where I want it to.
I was stuck on 3.5 as I didn't like the new interface. Was able to figure out how to get 4 to behave just about like I'm used to except one thing
(so far)

How do I keep KDE 4 from putting apps and icons in my desktop? I mean
I downloaded WINE and it appeared in my desktop as an icon.

I download something and it appears in my desktop as an icon. I delete it
and the file is deleted. Yes I told Firefox to ask me where to download a file but the thing still appears in the desktop of KDE

I built WINE from the command line and then started KDE up and the WINE directory mysteriously appears as an icon in the desktop. I don't want or like that characteristic. If I delete the icon, the directory is deleted and I REALLY don't like that

I tried searching to eliminate this but gads, it is hard to find and hard to ask.

I am using (Hold your snickers) Slackware 13. I'm started with it in '94 am used to it and I keep going back to it as I can customize it immensely.
I don't mind I start up in the commandline. I just type startx and I'm happy. Kurt

Looks like you have a folderview configured to show hidden directories. First in Dolphin, change to your desktop folder and disable showing of Hidden files.

Right click on an empty space in the Folder View and select "Folder View Settings". The select "Specify a folder" and enter the location you wish to be shown on the Desktop.
