Want more widgets!

Wed Jan 06, 2010 12:29 pm
I was playing around with Mandriva 2010 recently, and now have Debian Squeeze installed on my "test" computer (I'm mostly a Debian user). Both distros use KDE 4.3 but Mandriva had a lot more available widgets. I assume these things aren't distro-specific; where can I get more of them?

There are quite a few available at http://kde-look.org/

Some (most? Haven't counted) needs to be compiled, others are scripts that can easily be installed if the correct script-language has been installed first (should be available in Debian if it's not installed by default).

Maybe you do not have kdeplasma-addons installed.

Do you remember any of the widgets you miss?

Sorry to leave this thread hanging when people were trying to help; I've been extremely sick for the past couple of weeks.

To answer that last question, I had a weather widget I really liked called YAWP (if I remember correctly) and there was also a digital clock that used twelve hour units instead of twenty four. The weather widget was nice but not essential; I need the 12-hour clock or my wife is going to cook me and eat me for breakfast.

i think the 12 hour clock is simply a matter of system settings.

I think I found it; it's under Regional & Accessibility. I have to wait till afternoon to let you know if it worked.

It's in System Settings -> Regional & Language -> (Country/Region & Language) -> Time & Dates -> Time format.

(Woah I don't like the change - before you could simply set 12-hour clock. Well, you can click on the "arrow" and choose the other format, pH:MM:SS AMPM).

Those plasmoids are available on kde-look.

Yeah, I thought it was a bit convoluted. I'm surprised it's not in the clock settings.
