I'm using KDE 4.3.4 on Kubuntu Karmic. After upgrading to karmic, my folder view on my desktop disappeared, so I made a new one and put it in the spot where the old one was.
Now, whenever I log out and log back in, like a salmon returning to its spawning grounds, the folder view migrates back to the spot where it was created and resumes its original shape. I've tried deleting the folder view and recreating it, but the result is always the same -- it jumps back to the spot and shape it was originally created at every login. None of my other plasmoids (and I've got about 5-6 on the desktop) are doing this, just that folder view. Anyone had a problem like this?

Perhaps there might be a conflict on the old and new folderviews. Can you paste the contents of your plasma-desktop-appletsrc?
(Probably removing it will solve the problem, but you will also lose all the customizations you made and the appplets you put around)

Yes, thanks for your help. I noticed there is a lot of old junk in there, configs from plasmoids long gone from my desktop. I suppose I should take a crack at cleaning it up.

I have a problem similar except my Folder View completely disappears from view whenever I attempt to adjust the size. As soon as I drag the resize it, the whole thing disappears. The widget screen shows there is a Folder View but it is not visible anywhere. I just had to reload openSuSE 11.1 and KDE 4.3.4 after a failed install attempt of openSuSE 11.2. I did not have this behavior before. |

I wonder if that's related to the "screen" setting (although I don't know the Plasma internals enough to be sure). Are you using a multi monitor setup by any chance?

For my issue I tried the suggestion you gave and I removed all plasma*rc related files in the share/config and relogged in. That corrected the issue. Thanks. I had to reset all my preferences again but that's not a big deal. Thanks for the help.

Yes, two monitors. I managed to fix this today, sort of. The plasmoid in question was "containment[27]applet[104]". If you look at my config I posted, notice it has a geometry setting in two places. Only the one under "containment[27]applet[104][Configuration]" was getting updated when I resized/moved the folderview. The other value wasn't getting changed, and that was the one being read by folderview when plasma launched. My fix was to replace the geometry setting under "containment[27]applet[104]" with the one from "containment[27]applet[104][Configuration]". Merely deleting the former put the applet in the right spot on the screen, but not the right proportions. I suppose it probably still won't be right if I try to change the size, shape, or placement of this folderview in the future, but I can live with that for now.

Most likely you may have hit a multi monitor bug (or quirk with your setup): most Plasma developers don't have 2 monitors so it's hard to get things right without user feedback. You may want to look in bugs.kde.org to see if this problem has been reported.
