Is there a way to turn off that annoying pop up you get when you hover a directory and can see the content of that directory, I find it very distracting to see pop ups left and right when just moving my mouse...

Unfortunately this option is not yet available in KDE 4.4.

I cannot check 4.5 at this time, due to Plasma crashing whenever I hover over a Folderview.

:( you know I like kde in general but the desktop can be so over the top and "loud" with so much movement, animations, popup and glitz that it gets very tiring....

KDE is ugly DE due this "improvement". I wish suggest for KDE developers one BIG idea: when you make a new function, do not forget to add a option "DISABLE NEW FUNCTION" !!!!
I don't use a social network's widgets, so i'm happy, when i can shutdown all irritates widgets. I wish can to disable all functions, that I don't like to use and see any more...
Sorry for my bad English :)

At this time the setting does not exist, even in Trunk.

It is up to the developers of Folder View to do this. I think a feature request exists at this time.
