I’ve set the desktop activity to Folder View and those annoying preview popups of the folders contents on mousehover really bug me. I can live without the plasma widget, showing a specific folder (i.e. the home folder), which has the same issue, but not without having any folders on the desktop at all. How do I change this?

Unfortunately this is not possible at this time, as a setting does not exist.

I wish this was possible too. I was looking at all the settings and couldn't find anything. It's really annoying when you are moving your mouse around and those keep popping up and blocking your view.

Usually when I am looking for something in a folder, I know where it is and don't need a preview!

Sounds like you're missing half of the point - this lets you navigate around in a folder/directory. If you have a "download" folder on your desktop and want to open "download/somefile", simply hover over the "download" folder and click on "somefile" in the popup. No need to open an external file manager.

That could be true, but I think it is actually faster if you move your mouse over it and click right away to let the folder open rather than waiting for the preview to open. I still think there should be an option to turn it off though.

Almost exactly the same question so I don't want to start a new thread for it, however I'm not sure if the answer is the same or not.

Also with desktop activity in 'Folder View' I have various application start up icons on my desktop, when the mouse hovers over them a popup appears with a copy of the icon and the application's name, as shown with Konqueror in the image below. Is it possible to stop these popups as I find them annoying?

Many thanks.

No, it is not currently possible to stop the popups.

A toggle for this should be added into a near future version. It would make a lot of people happy. :)

In kde 4.5 the popups no longer just appear, you have to click an icon next to the folder.

Do you know if that will be configureable? Actually I find the automatic popup of folders quite handy.

It is not configurable at the present time.

Good. I had actually reported the lack of mousehover as a bug in 4.4.81 ((KDE 4.4.81 (KDE 4.5 >= 20100527)) "release 8") as I find it very useful. Toggling mousehover to be on all the time would suit me.

Uhmmm. What 'icon' next to the folder? I got mousehover only by clicking on a blank space in openSUSE 11.2 (x86_64). No icons there.

When I put my mouse over a folder in folderview, I get two icons. One is the "+" button in the upper left-hand corner also seen in dolphin, the other is directly below it and is an up arrow. Clicking that shows the sub-folder.

Ah. No 'up arrow' icon in my Folder View. I've reported that. Thanks.

Later: I notice that the bug report is marked 'WONT' - does that mean that the missing up icon is not going to be fixed?
