You must have realized there's quite a lot of talk about bug #155150 about adding the possiblity to have multiple wallpapers:

https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=155150

comment #45 explains a workaround to bind plasma activities to virtual dekstops - that way one can have different wallpapers on each desktop, but each desktop also has its own plasmoids with separate configuration.

I did it, and was happy in KDE 4.3 times:

https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=155150#c51

It still works, since I upgraded directly to KDE 4.4 from 4.3.

But now the Settings menu is rearranged, and it is impossible to do it anymore were anyone using distro with KDE 4.4 packages as default.

So, I am asking You - how to turn this option off/on in KDE 4.4 when there is no GUI for that anymore? I personally think this might be
Code: Select all
~/.kde4/share/config/plasma-desktoprc

And this setting:
Code: Select all
[General]
perVirtualDesktopViews=true

I set that to false and all my virtual desktops had the same wallpaper. That seems to be it, doesn't it? Would simply adding 4 different activities and setting this to "true" on a stock 4.4 distro be sufficient to have 4 different wallpapers?

It's in System Settings now:

System Settings -> Desktop -> Multiple Desktops -> Different activity for each desktop.
