plasma-netbook: suspend2ram, how?  Topic is solved

Mon Mar 15, 2010 11:29 am
I like plasma-netbook a lot, especially on my netbook, but I don't know how to execute suspend2ram. Okay, on my netbook I can close the lid, but if I'm using plasma-netbook not on my netbook?

How do you do suspend2ram in plasma-netbook?

I tried it with krunner, but because my kde is in german, I don't know which word will get me to suspend2ram. Something like "Ruhezustand", which should be hibernate/suspend, doesn't work.

On plasma-desktop, I have my kmenu to navigate to hibernate/suspend, but on plasma-netbook? Should I add lancelot to my newspaper-activity? (No, that's not a good solution for that).

If the PowerDevil runner is enabled, typing "Suspend" should give a list of options for suspending to disk and ram. If the shutdown dialog is reachable ( the same one with logout ) they should be present there too.

Well, looks like PowerDevil in krunner is enabled, but typing "suspend" does nothing, though my kde is in german. "Logout" doesn't work, too, but "abmelden" works.

Is there a way to figure out, which the correct german word for kde's suspend2ram is?

And I don't think this is user-friendly. I can right-click on the desktop to logout/reboot/halt, but suspend...

The correct translation for "suspend" should simply be sufficient.

To check that KDE has support for suspend, please post the output of "solid-powermanagement query suspend"

Well, that's my problem. I don't know the correct translation for "suspend". And using http://www.leo.org gives me this:

www.leo.org "suspend"

None of these words have something to do with "suspend (to ram/to disk)". I don't know the correct translation and I don't know where to look at.

To check that KDE has support for suspend, please post the output of "solid-powermanagement query suspend"

Code: Select all
$ solid-powermanagement query suspend
solid-powermanagement(1841)/kdecore (KSycoca) KSycocaPrivate::openDatabase: Trying to open ksycoca from  "/var/tmp/kdecache-christian/ksycoca4"
solid-powermanagement(1841)/kdecore (KLibrary) kde4Factory: The library "/usr/lib/kde4/solid_hal_power.so" does not offer a qt_plugin_instance function.
to_disk
to_ram

Suspend to ram works with lancelot, but it is a terrible workaround in plasma-netbook.

Isn't there a "push this button" solution in plasma-netbook?

Please file a bug report in this case, since it should by all counts be present. If you configure the action of your PowerDevil currently active profile to show the logout dialog, you should be able to select it from there ( hold down your mouse over Shutdown )

You mean typing "suspend" should be give my a option? I'll try to ask some german kde-users, if they know the german word for this and then file a bug report.

Thanks, that was, what I'm looking for. Works good. :-)

EDIT: It somehow works now with "ruhezustand" (which is "suspend2ram"), as it should. I don't know, why it didn't work several attemps before...
