It doesn't work properly for me in 4.4.x though, and you can't remove it using the new widget explorer.

True, it's a bit of a bother if you want to get rid of it again. Then again, if someone wants to get rid of the toolbox badly enough I don't think that's much of a problem...when it works as intended that is. Maybe my memory is flawed but I can't recall it being more troublesome in 4.4 compared to 4.3. What happens for you?

I believe that the plan is to get rid of it in 4.5, so it's probably not worth going to a lot of trouble to get rid of it. Personally I've never found it enough of a problem anyway, but of course what irritates one is no problem to another - it's a purely personal issue.

Any reference on that? I've never heard of such plans. However, I've seen plans on replacing the ZUI (when you zoom out) with a more advanced activity bar. The toolbox, as far as I know, is going to stay. OP: you could try http://kde-look.org/content/show.php/St ... ent=108460 . I never got it to work on my system though.

So what exactly do you mean by the Toolbox icon? That is the name that Aseigo gives to the ZUI, so naturally I assumed that you were speaking of the same thing. The panel one he simply calls the panel toolbox.

The Plasma toolbox is what's often referred to as 'the cashew'.
Sorry, forgot to reply to this. Nothing happens when add iHateTheCashew to my desktop, but the widget explorer indicates that it's added (if my memory serves me right).

Indeed = so were talking about the same thing - the cashew is used to zoom out - the zui. I'm sure I recall reading that iHateTheCashew is not compatible with 4.4, but I've no idea where I read it. Perhaps google might find it for you?

The toolbox is not going away. What is going away is the zooming (in fact, it's already been removed in SVN trunk).

Thanks for the clarification. Things get announced in blogs months before we see them arrive, so sometimes it's difficult to remember exactly what was said.
I don't think I've used zooming since I first read the forum topic about setting up a switch-activity bar, and now that desktops and activities can be combined without zooming there probably isn't anything left for it to do.

For reference, Zooming is to be replaced with an UI that hasn't committed yet AFAIK.
