Quicklaunch icons suddenly spaced far apart

I boot up this week, and suddenly all quicklaunch icons are spaced very far apart. The quicklaunch widget takes up full space.

I've found no way to make it smaller.

To make matters worse, trying to drag with the left mouse button on or near this widget, sometimes makes KDE suddenly crash (things become black, crash handler window appear, after a while things automacically come back).

This is KDE 4.4, on Ubuntu.

How can I get this fixed? (Have the quicklaunch thing take up only the space needed instead of leaving 3 centimeters between each icon), and also have it REMAIN that way and not have some strange random thing change every reboot?

Also, it's been 4 years since the first KDE 4.4, and it's still not as stable as 3.5? Come on guys, is this serious?

How can it be that hard to get these icons right. I've made an earlier thread about the quicklaunch icons being confusing. But now they're doing plain weird on my PC and even crashing my desktop!

Why is still still not right in KDE 4? In KDE 3 there was never a problem with this.

Thanks.

Given that your Plasma configuration files have experienced numerous crashes it is probable that they are corrupt. Take screenshots if needed of your current configuration, then run the following commands:

Code: Select all
kquitapp plasma-desktop
sleep 10s
mkdir -p $HOME/plasma-config-backup
mv $(kde4-config --localprefix)/share/config/plasm* $HOME/plasma-config-backup
plasma-desktop &
