Getting tired of gnome, I decided to switch to kde4. I finally understand how it works (the idea of plasmoids), but I'm having some pretty irritating issues with them.
Whenever I try to move my plasmoids to another part of the screen, or even try to resize them, they immediately snap back to their original position / size. My first thought was a permission error on my ~/.kde directory, but a quick chown/chmod indicated this is not the case. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! -corte |

I can't explain why it happens, though I have seen that behaviour. I think it was in 4.4.2 - it doesn't seem to happen in 4.4.3.
It seems illogical, but what I did was work on getting one where I needed it, then immediately locking widgets, giving it a few moments before unlocking to continue to the next widget. It did take more than one try on some widgets, particularly if I had resized them. It's a workaround, but it worked for me.

annew, thank you for the response.
I went ahead & upgraded to version 4.4.3--it seemed that this helped, but only a little bit. I am now able to resize my Desktop folder plasmoid. The issues arise when I attempt to add new widgets, such as the analog clock or calendar...they just jump around! I may see if I can record a youtube video or something to show everyone exactly what I am talking about. EDIT: I thought I was, but shortly after I moved my calendar widget around, my desktop folder snapped back to it's original size & position. Also wanted to let you know I am running Ubuntu 10.04 (x64) with the newest NVIDIA drivers--195.36.24. |
