I'm not sure, that is the right place, so correct me if I'm wrong.

I'm planning to move my /home directory to central server, and I think there will be a problem with desktop configuration, and probably something more.

First of all, every my computer have different resolution, from 1650x1050+1280x1024, to simple 1024x768, so I need different plasma config, especially for (I'm not sure how to call it in English) that thing on bottom of the screen which keeps clock and task manager ;)

Next thing I can predict right now, is that I need different power-devil and fonts config for each desktop.

And there is one more quite important requirement. I need to run more then one session at the time, because I use up to three computers at one moment.

Could you help me to make this? I can go hardcore, and cover config files from server by local ones, but I don't know which one it would be, and it's not elegant solution.

Do you have a better idea?

My suggestion would be to set up each computer separately and mount the home directory of the server to some arbitrary directory on the client computers (NOT the home directory). Then you should copy and paste all of the configuration file from the server to the home directories of the different computers. Then you can change all of the configurations you need to, and reboot. Then use diff to find out which files are the same on the local copy of the configration and the shared copy. Then you can delete the local copies of the config files that have not changed (you will probably need to login to terminal) and then symlink them to the versions on the remote computer, leaving the config files that have changed intact so the local copies are used. That way shared copies of the configs you want to share are used, while local (non-shared) copies of the configs you don't want to share are used.

There may be a more efficient way to do this, though.

One of the PCLinuxOS crew is working on a new release that uses 6 unique task-oriented desktops, but to make the plasmoids work on multiple resolutions "out of the box" he has written a short bash script that detects screen resolution and overwrite's the plasma config files with ones that are appropriate to the screen being used (the script is started automatically at login, and restarts plasma-desktop when needed to apply the settings)

A few modifications to his script and config files could solve your problem. I will send him a message with a link to this post..

..but if you don't want to wait, there is info and download links for the project here:

..the script you are looking for on the iso is called fm_setupwidgets ;)

changes of the upcoming FullMonty-beta2:
- updated IrfanView to version 4.27
- updated all other installed applications, added some new ones, included all feedback provided in the forum and from PMs
- added: fm_switcher. This script allows to switch between the fullmonty and the default KDE4 layout, as found on the KDE isos. With this script you can setup some users with fullmonty layout and some other users with the default KDE layout, all on the same system.
- updated all desktop layouts and wallpapers with folder view widgets (thanks tame!). With this new setup you can now easily add any other launcher to existing folder views on a given virtual desktop. The folder views appear as little windows on the virtual desktop. You can scroll through each window to find any launcher inside. You can also resize each folder view window to any size you like in order to see more or viewer launchers.

Previews of the 6 virtual desktops on the installed system:

Desktop 2: Office

Desktop 3: Games

Desktop 4: Multimedia

Desktop 6: System

have fun,
-p.
