How to setup activities?

Sat Jun 12, 2010 6:30 pm
I thought I'd give Desktop Activities a try today, but I'm having some trouble setting them up the way I'd like it. It could be that what I want isn't possible, but we'll see.

I'm aiming to have 11 different activities linked to 6 different desktops.

Desktop 1: Media, and Games
Desktop 2: Web browsing
Desktop 3: E-mail
Desktop 4: Chat (IM, IRC, etc)
Desktop 5: Updates, Programming, Local Web development, and remote web development
Desktop 6: Office, and Art.

The idea here is that each desktop falls in a broad category, and this is how I've been using them since I started with Linux 8 years ago. But the activities will let me, for example, customize the folder views and quicklaunch for each type of programming that I do.

I have set up 6 activies, one for each desktop. And I have created a 7th activity, but I can't figure out how to link it to a desktop, nor can I figure out how to switch between activities on the one desktop. If anyone has hints on that, I'd appreciate it.

Linking more than one activity to multiple desktops is, as far as I can believe, only possible with the most recent SC version (4.5 beta 2 and onward) - that's because there the concept of "one activity = one desktop" is being decoupled (along with a myriad of other changes).
I'm not sure on how to do it, but I can probably investigate.

Ah. I'm running 4.4, so I'll just wait a couple of months and try again. I'll probably be able to figure it out.
