I know that in KDE 4.4 there was an option in System Settings that you could check to have different activities per desktop, but I can't for the life of me, figure out where that option has gone in KDE 4.5. I've been searching for hours (literally) to try to figure out how to set that up. Any help would be appreciated.

  • Open Systemsettings
  • Go to the category "Window Behavior"
  • Go to the element "Virtual Desktops"
  • Select the option "Different widgets for each desktop"
  • Press "Apply"

The names can be differrent because I'm using the German version of KDE.

activities != widgets, that is what eightmillion asked for, or do I missed something?

Thanks Jan! That does it, although I'm not sure what the option has to do with window behavior. The "workspace" kcm seems like the obvious place to put it.

It appears that the wording and location of the option has changed from 4.4 to 4.5.

Yes, that's my opinion, too.

To set different activities per desktop in KDE 4.5 (teste on beta 2)

1. Display all desktops [Ctr + F58 by default], and make one desktop.
2. Kill 2 config files - ~/.kde4/share/configactivitymenagerrc & ~/.kde4/share/config/plasma-desktop-appletsrc
3. Rekogin
4.
Open Systemsettings
Go to the category "Window Behavior"
Go to the element "Virtual Desktops"
Select the option "Different widgets for each desktop"
Press "Apply"

5. Open activities manager [Meta + Q], and add some activties.
6. Add multiple desktops, the number of activities.

This has now been updated in my openSuSE.

{System Settings|Configure Desktop} ->
Workspace Appearance and Behavior + Workspace Behavior ->
Virtual Desktops

and check "Different _W_idgets (aka: activities) for each desktop"

I'll be opening a new ticket though. After clicking, "apply" all
widgets became disabled. No wall paper. No activity bar.
No background menus. No nothing. I can still switch desktops with
Ctl-Fxx function keys, but I'm pretty hosed.

MORAL OF THE STORY: back up your ~/.kde* directories first.
