I have the folowing problem: some my users cannot control what they are doing with the desktop of KDE, so they periodically unlock widgets (plasma) and delete some usefull panels and plasmoids (taskbar, for example). My wish is to block their ability to unlock widgets.

Earlier, I saw the Kiosk project, but documentation is too old. So... how to disable Unlock widgets button?

I know some support for Kiosk is in Plasma, however I'm unsure of the total extent of said support.

Some information related to Kiosk support in Plasma is available on KDE TechBase: http://techbase.kde.org/Projects/Plasma/Kiosk

Immutability disables moving and deleting, effectively locking the applets. The downside is that you need to do so for every applet instead of a system-wide setting.

It would be nice if locking and unlocking applets could be done only as root.

any news on that topic? the kiosk mode seems incomplete (and so does the documentation) i'm not able to lock down plasma (except by taking away the file permissions on the rc files of course)..
thats a BUG in my humble opinion..

i just found another way to lock down all plasma applets

you'll have to add [$i] in the first (blank) line into the plasma-desktop-appletrc

this will make all applets immutable (no move, resize, delete)
