Just installed OpenSuse 11.3 as new install but with /home directory retained from previous version (11.1)
Whilst in 11.1 the Desktop Widgets tended to be too persistent but were complete with tools in the handle, my present installation has no tools showing in the handle. Is there any way I can sort this out please? Regards, Budgie2 |

no idea, running openSuse 11.3 and it's fine for me which of course is no consolation
you could try reinstalling the plasma related rpm's, should be: kdebase4, kdebase4-runtime, kdebase4-workspace amd libkde4 |

Hi & thanks for the suggestion. Alas no joy. Since I am not the only one I shall check bug reports and raise one if necessary. Regards, Budgie2 |

One other possibility. Do you normally have widgets locked because that also locks all the configuration options?

I had this problem, and found a solution by accident. It's all to do with workspace themes.
Aya does not have buttons in the handle but Air openSuse and Air for Netbooks does. You'll also find that with themes you download, some have the buttons and some don't. This problem also occurs when trying to resize a desktop panel, some have the resizing arrows and some don't. |

i have also a problem with resizing desktop widgets....
i can only minimize but cant maximize ....and thats weird.. also tried to change desktop theme in order to influence the widgets behavior and no luck... any theme i apply will not let me maximize the widgets... the only thing wich allows me to minimize or maximize is the digital clock... no other widgets...though... i think this is a real problem dont you think... any solutions? |

What do you mean by "maximize"?

@theBlackCat: tashinorbu probably means like you can maximize a window.
In the context of plasma and plasma widgets, there isn't really the concept of "minimized" and "maximized". You can place widgets on the desktop or you can place them in the panel. Some widgets like Folder View are Containments which can be used as the main containment for an activity - that is they fill the whole desktop. While you can put any widget either in the panel or on the desktop, I don't think you can use any widget as the main containment for an activity.

That is what I thought, but you can't minimize plasmoids either.

i am surprised you dont know what i mean..
currently i am using the desktop activty chosen from desktop settings under activity on this activity i have in the right corner the toolbox which allows me to add widgets to my desktop by dragging them from the panel and dropping them onto the desktop. if you hover a widget it will show a vertical rectangular handle which displays the options of maximize-minimize,rotate,settings and close. For some reason the problem is been fixed... I left home and when i came back the whole desktop looked different(it was in desktop activity mode on a black background) and every widget works as it should.. I am not quite sure what happened there but i am happy |

This seems to be where the confusion is coming from - the button you refer to doesn't maximize (become full-screen) or minimize (become an icon), but allows you to resize the widget.
