Hi! I'd like to add another path, besides /usr/share/wallpapers/, to plasma's wallpaper list, so that it would automatically load my wallpapers. How can I do this? Thanks!

try:
file=~/.kde4/share/config/plasma-desktop-appletsrc
line=slidepaths=/usr/share/wallpapers/

try changing line to slidepaths=/usr/share/wallpapers/:/home/xxx/xxxx/
- not sure what would be proper delimiter, maybe "," or ":" ?

note: some distro's use ~/kde/share/config/plasma-desktop-appletsrc

Thanks for the quick answer, but it didn't work - I tried both ":" and "," and I rebooted, but it doesn't add my custom path to the list. I read somewhere that plasma doesn't read the 'plasma-desktop-appletsrc' file, it just writes to it. If that's the case there must be some other file, from which plasma gets its information.

I tried the line "userswallpapers=" but that didn't work either

fyi just restarting kde or running "kquitapp plasma-desktop" then "plasma-desktop" instead of rebooting should take into account any changes made to the plasma rc files

Thanks for the tip ;)
Ok, I tried adding a secind slidepaths line with my custom wallpaper path to no avail - plasma automatically deleted it. I removed all userswallpapers and they disappeared from the list, which means that plasma DOES read the file. I also tried replacing /usr/share/wallpapers with my path, in case it doesn't accept two paths or the separator is neither ":", nor ",", but it still show only its default path...

you could submit a bug report on bugzilla.kde.org

Sorry to bump this but I too am looking to add a folder to my kde wallpaper config window. Is there a resolution to this problem?

link your directory of wallpapers to a sub-drectory of /usr/share/wallpapers

as root:
Code: Select all
ln -s ~/MyWallpapers  /usr/share/wallpapers/MyWallpapers

Yeah I figured it out a short while back. You can link it in ~/.kde4/share/wallpapers. Better that way because you don't need root access to do that.

Thanks very much for this. Makes adding wallpapers MUCH easier. Is there a wish to make adding folders easier from the GUI because, if so, I'd like to up-vote it.
