without success, unfortunately

It is probable that your configuration files are somehow incompatible with the new version of Plasma, or have been corrupted somehow. Please run the following commands:

sleep 20s
mkdir -p $HOME/plasma-config/
mv $(kde4-config --localprefix)/share/config/plasma-desktop* $HOME/plasma-config/
plasma-desktop &

No luck. It just stalled inside

mv $(kde4-config --localprefix)/share/config/plasma-desktop* $HOME/plasma-config/

Plasma configuration is lost.

Never seen that command stall before.. however moving the Plasma configuration elsewhere was what was intended. Do you have the default desktop now?
