Can't install Plasma widget from Download option

arindom Registered Member Posts 53 Karma 0 OS	Can't install Plasma widget from Download option Mon Sep 13, 2010 4:18 am System - KDE 4.5.1 on Kubuntu 10.10 beta. I am not being able to install any of the plasma widgets, that I tried to install from Add Widgets --> Get new Widgets --> Download New .... option. Is there any package that I am missing here?

They need to correct their metadata.desktop file, which is not specification compliant. Some widgets may require the appropriate scripting engines installed, such as Python, etc. KDE Sysadmin [img]content/bcooksley_sig.png[/img]

Because I also tried few other plasmoids.
ngativ Registered Member Posts 66 Karma 0 OS	Re: Can't install Plasma widget from Download option Tue Sep 14, 2010 7:58 am This is a bug in the kdelibs package for the kde 4.5.1 release Is related to KArchive and KZip libraries, so when the plama package instaler tries to unzip the plasmoid it fails extracting just garbage

Yes it looks like a bug. Will probably gets fixed soon. I found a workaround which is working for me. Thought to share it here for others who might be facing the same issue. Unzipping the plasmoid as directory and then installing with plasmapkg -i <directory> works. I found this at Source : https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=104060
