System - KDE 4.5.1 on Kubuntu 10.10 beta.

I am not being able to install any of the plasma widgets, that I tried to install from Add Widgets --> Get new Widgets --> Download New .... option.

When I checked the errors log I found the following :

kio_file(15075) FileProtocol::put: Appending .part extension to "/tmp/kde-ar/PHzQClZgIy-101147-CpuFreqDisplay.zip"
"KConfigIni: In file /tmp/kde-ar/plasmapkgxgWaga/metadata.desktop, line 1: " Invalid entry (missing '=')

plasmapkg(15076)/libplasma Plasma::Package::installPackage: Package plugin name not specified
Installation of /tmp/kde-ar///101147-CpuFreqDisplay.zip failed.
plasma-desktop(1808)/knewstuff (api): Command failed

I tried with some other widgets too but those could not work.

Is there any package that I am missing here?

That widget is broken, please report it to their maintainer. They need to correct their metadata.desktop file, which is not specification compliant.

Some widgets may require the appropriate scripting engines installed, such as Python, etc.

Thanks bcooksley for making me understand the issue. This means many of the plamoids will need update. Because I also tried few other plasmoids.

This is a bug in the kdelibs package for the kde 4.5.1 release
Is related to KArchive and KZip libraries, so when the plama package instaler tries to unzip the plasmoid it fails
extracting just garbage

Thanks ngativ for the update. Yes it looks like a bug. Will probably gets fixed soon.

I found a workaround which is working for me. Thought to share it here for others who might be facing the same issue. Unzipping the plasmoid as directory and then installing with plasmapkg -i <directory> works.

I found this at Source : https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=104060

Right, I introduced this regression while fixing another bug for release 4.5.1 (bug 237124) :<

But it has already been fixed, and the fix will be available with the 4.5.2 release. The patch can be found at bug 251192.

Thanks Christopher for the fix.

As I was able to install the plasmoids, I will wait for 4.5.2.
