I tried installing the Oxygen System Monitor Plasmoid (http://kde-look.org/content/show.php/Oxygen+System+Monitor?content=86664), which is a .skz file, and every time I go to install it from my hard drive, I get a message saying "Installing the package ... failed".
So I went to install EG-SysMon by downloading it through the "Add Widget" feature and it does not show up in my row of widgets even though it says it was installed. I'm not sure what's going on here. I'm using KDE 4.5.1 (Lucid Lynx) if that matters. Thanks. |

Which version of KDE are you using? KDE 4.5.1 contains a bug which prevents applets being installed. This is fixed in 4.5.2.

I'm using 4.5.1. I wasn't aware 4.5.2 was out yet because there is no mention of it at KDE.org.

In fact it's not out yet. It should be rather soon, hopefully.

Are there any solutions in the meantime?

Not that I know unless your distro backports the fix.

there is one. you can manualy extract the archive and the install it with the command line tool to install plasmoids. plasmapkg.

*.skz, that's probably a Superkaramba file. If you have Superkaramba installed, try to download the file manually and run
where filename is the name of the file, for example 86664-oxygen.skz.
