KDE Menu Annoyances

Fri Sep 24, 2010 3:59 pm
Why is it that things that seem obvious to users don't seem to be obvious to programmers?

I have been using Slackware and KDE off and on for over 10 years and it still amazes me how the simplest of things are either missing, or not possible, or a real pain in the ascii.....

How do I remove the favorites folder from the classic menu, or at least be able to remove the contents?

Also on this, when I remove something from Kickoff why does it not update Classic, or visa versa? Don't like Kickoff, prefer Classic.

How do I disable recent application list. Don't want to see them in the menu.

Dragging and dropping - where is this option?

Adding Widgets and Panels, very confusing and not very user friendly. If the above was present it would solve some of this problem.

The two I would really like to find out a solution to are the favorites and recent apps, if anyone has any ideas that would be great.

Thanks

For the classical menu:

Right click on the icon -> Application Launcher Menu Settings. In View, uncheck Favorites. In Options, set Recently used applications to 0.

Thanks on that, but here is something odd as well. I went to the actual group which one of the favorites was in.

i.e. Launcher->Settings->Dolphin

I right clicked on Dolphin and there was an option to remove it from the favorites folder, so I clicked on it.

I assumed it would just remove Dolphin, but it removed the entire Favorites folder. This must be a bug as I am sure this is not supposed to happen.

I went to Launcher menu setting to see if it was unchecked, but no, it was still checked but the favorites is now gone.

Is that weird, Or What?

Is there an alternative menu system for KDE. The classic one is a joke, as trying to edit it is impossible. When I move things in the menu editor they show up as I want them, but in the actual menu they are all over the place or don't show up at all. My Favorites as mentioned above is gone for good it looks.

Are these known issues?

Is there a way of refreshing the menu other than just saving it? Right now no changes actually are getting saved.

I don't want to reset it as I added some items earlier I don't want to lose. The problem only seems to be trying to move existing items.

Thanks

Did you check bugs.kde.org?

There are 1000's of entries and don't have time to waste on it. I do enough of that for Windows problems. Hoping someone here has a fix or an alternative.

That is why there is a search function.

Problems will not get fixed if developers do not know about them.
