Plasma freezes

Tue Oct 05, 2010 8:15 pm
Hi !

I am using KDE 4.5.2 but it already happened with 4.5.x. Sometimes, I don't know really when, plasma will freeze for a few seconds. During this time I cannot click on anything on the desktop or on the taskbar. But I can still switch between application using expose feature when going to the corner of the screen. And apps are still working. Here is the last thing shown in by plasma-desktop after a freeze :
plasma-desktop(26321)/ Plasma::FrameSvg::resizeFrame: Invalid size QSizeF(125, 0)
QGraphicsLinearLayout::removeAt: invalid index 1
plasma-desktop(26321)/ Plasma::FrameSvg::resizeFrame: Invalid size QSizeF(125, 0)
plasma-desktop(26321)/ Plasma::FrameSvg::resizeFrame: Invalid size QSizeF(125, 0)
QWidget::setMinimumSize: (/StackDialog) Negative sizes (-1,-1) are not possible
QWidget::setMinimumSize: (/StackDialog) Negative sizes (-1,-1) are not possible
QWidget::setMinimumSize: (/StackDialog) Negative sizes (-1,-1) are not possible
QWidget::setMinimumSize: (/Plasma::Dialog) Negative sizes (-1,-1) are not possible
QWidget::setMinimumSize: (/StackDialog) Negative sizes (-1,-1) are not possible
Couldn't find node center. Skipping rendering.

EDIT : the freezes are very frequent. And this time it didn't write anything so I am not sure the information above is relevant

Please tell me how I can troubleshoot this, thanks

Please try with a clean configuration and see if you can reproduce. One way (and probably the easiest) to try this is to login with a new user.

From what I can see, this new user doesn't have such an issue... So I can I find out what may cause this. Disabling thing one by one ?

I can't think of a better solution. :-/

Can you tell us more about your setup? Do you have many activities and plasmoids? If you have many activities, you can try to pause a few. If you have any plasmoids you know is more likely to cause problems (i.e. probably not the most common ones such as task manager and clock), you can try to remove them and see if it helps.

Removed all the plasmoids. No more problem. I will re enable them one by one to hunt the bad boy.

As I want to add some widgets, cpufreqdisplay makes plasma freeze as soon as displayed. This one was the bad one. Not using it anymore and it is now OK. Thanks for your support
