LCD weather station

Fri Oct 22, 2010 8:48 am
hey there,

There seems to be a problem with my weather station. Each time I start the system, the station attempts to download current data from the provider (I use accuweather), it searches, searches, searches and eventually informs me that it failed to establish a connection (or something like that). I have to get into the configuration and click ok, and only then does it show temperature etc. I mean... It shouldn't work like that, right? Or should it?

thanks for your suggestions.

No, that is definitely not intended behavior, nor is it how it work on my computer. Have you tried a different city or a different weather provider? This is not a fix, but it will help narrow down the source of the problem.

I have only tried cities within Poland, different ones. Didn't check it for US or Canada. I have switched through providers though, mostly Google and Wunderground - each giving same results at startup. I'll try toggling between cities and providers later on.

So I set New York in one station and Madrid in the other. That was last night. Today, upon starting it up, nothing changed. I used NOAA for New York and I think BBC for Madrid. It said that it could not download the weather information (passed the time limit for download). Any clues?

It seems that your network connection isn't up when Plasma starts, causing the retrieval to timeout. Normally, Plasma will be notified when the network connection comes up, but I suspect this happens before the retrieval times out, resulting in the retrieval not being retried.

So I guess there's nothing I can do with it?

have you tried other weather plasmoids? I'm not seeing this problem using yawp

it could be a bug in the sw (similar to my experience with simple weather plasmoid viewtopic.php?f=67&t=83632&p=136601&hilit=weather#p136622)

you could post a bug https://bugs.kde.org/

I have the same issue, the LCD weather station does not show any info when the system starts up.

The interesting thing is, I am running Sabayon and openSUSE Tumbleweed on 2 pc and both pc and os have this issue.

Is there anyone else having the same issue?

Apparently this is a known issue, and it was brought up in the Plasma development mailing list to see whether it can be fixed.
