I'm running Slackware 13.1 with KDE 4.4.3 on an ASUS eee pc 1000H. I sometimes use it with an external 19" monitor running plasma-desktop and sometimes use it on the move just with its own 10" screen with plasma-netbook (which I like v much).
I switch between the two at the console (I don't use KDM, but boot up to the console as is the default in slackware) by running a script that either puts an appropriate xorg.conf in place for my 19" monitor or else removes the xorg.conf if I'm just using the 10" screen. After that I launch X and KDE with startx. This works fine, but I then have to select plasma-desktop or -netbook via System Settings, which can be a bit fiddly. What I'd prefer to do is to launch KDE with the correct plasma mode. Can anyone advise me on how this could be done? |

This appears to be done by changing the appropriate autostart file, although it also appears that the KCM does many other changes as well, so simply changing files in ~/.config/autostart may not be sufficient.

Thanks for the suggestion - and apologies for the very delayed response from me!
I had a play with the autostart files but couldn't find a way of reliably getting it to work. |

The needed changes are to add/remove the Hidden=true key from the files I believe. You may find kwriteconfig to be helpful here.
