Hello forum, this is my first post here, I am a "newbie" using KDE (I has been using Gnome since 2006). I have Chakra Linux with KDE 4.4.5 and would like to add a new taskbark (panel) and put tasks icons (shortcuts) into the 2nd taskbar created, is that possible? I mean instead of adding a "dock" is it possible to run applications from a 2nd bar (like standard Gnome desktop)? I would like to know that step by step. Thanks!

Hi atari130xe and welcome to the forums.
KDE Plasma Desktop is very flexible in this regard, you can add as many panels as you want and put widgets in them. To create a new panel: Plasma HowTo - Add new panel To add icons to the panel, make sure your widgets are unlocked and simply drag icons to the panel. For more information about how to use panels, see Plasma HowTo (4.4). The screencasts with icons are only present in the latest version of Plasma HowTo (4.5), but it works the same way in 4.4.x.

Thank you very much for your prompt reply. I have learned how to add a 2nd panel, the problem Im facing is the following: once the 2nd panel has been added, I go to Kickoff menu and if I try to add an icon to the new panel (as an example Kopete or K3b) I click on "add to the panel" and the icon is added but in the first panel (main task bar) not to the new one. any clue? thanks!

If you do it that way, the icons are added to the same panel as the Kickoff widget is in. So if you want to add icons like this, you have to add Kickoff to the second panel first (see Plasma HowTo if you don't know how to add widgets).
But you can also do as in my link above and simply drag icons from Kickoff (or Dolphin etc.) to your second panel.

Thanks the photo has been taken in San carlos de Bariloche (Bariloche for short) a ski resort in Rio Negro province, Patagonia region, Argentina. The building you see in the pic is the Llao Llao Hotel (a beautiful & luxurious hotel built in 1938) I have been living in Bariloche for 6 years till 2008. |
