plasma-desktop and annoying IORR

Wed Dec 15, 2010 3:45 am
Hi,
I found out that plasma-desktop is doing IORR for about 4-5 seconds every now and then. This happens whichever load is present on the system.

This is the typical content of .xsession-errors:
Code: Select all
kde(6910)/kdeui (KIconLoader): Trying to remove an entry which is already invalid. This  cache is likely corrupt.
kde(6910)/kdeui (KIconLoader): Trying to remove an entry which is already invalid. This  cache is likely corrupt.

kde(6910)/kdeui (KIconLoader): Trying to remove an entry which is already invalid. This  cache is likely corrupt.
kde(6910)/plasma StatusNotifierItemSource::refreshCallback: DBusMenu disabled for this application
klauncher(4438)/kio (KLauncher): SlavePool: No communication with slave.

Is this normal behavior ?

probably there are stale files from a previous installation in `kde-config --localprefix`/cache-*/kpc/

delete them and things should go back to better.

Ok I deleted these files, but as I wasn't noticing any improvements, iwatch came to the rescue:

Code: Select all
$ iwatch -vr ~/.kde1/

[16/Dec/2010 23:04:55] IN_CLOSE_WRITE .kde1/share/apps/plasma-desktop/plasma-storage.db-journal
[16/Dec/2010 23:04:55] IN_DELETE .kde1/share/apps/plasma-desktop/plasma-storage.db-journal
[16/Dec/2010 23:04:55] * .kde1/share/apps/plasma-desktop/plasma-storage.db-journal is deleted
[16/Dec/2010 23:04:55] IN_CREATE .kde1/share/apps/plasma-desktop/plasma-storage.db-journal
[16/Dec/2010 23:04:55] IN_CLOSE_WRITE .kde1/share/apps/plasma-desktop/plasma-storage.db-journal
[16/Dec/2010 23:04:55] IN_DELETE .kde1/share/apps/plasma-desktop/plasma-storage.db-journal
[16/Dec/2010 23:04:55] * .kde1/share/apps/plasma-desktop/plasma-storage.db-journal is deleted

Here for the full paste.

Maybe it's all ok but I didn't remember the same behavior with older KDE versions and since I use luks crypted filesystem, It happens that during these events the system becomes a little unresponsive.

Hi, just to notice that the problem lasts also with RC1.
I have to point out that I am using a multiseat environment with two KDE sessions running simultaneously with the same user but each with a different $KDE{HOME,TMP,VARTMP}.
Only one of the two sessions (always the same) suffers this problem (plasma-desktop also randomly crashes, although rarely) even after removing the contents of its $KDE{HOME,TMP,VARTMP}.

Would it be some kind of problem with unexpected data shared by the two sessions?

Found out the "culprit": plasma microblogging widget
Now that I have it disabled, everything went ok.
