I have multiple users each logging in to kubuntu 10.10 with kdm, all using KDE desktops. At some point while switching between users (typically via the 'switch user' option under 'leave' menu in the app launcher), the system begins swapping heavily and eventually the OOM killer kills plasma-desktop. I haven't observed the problem with only a single KDE desktop.

This problem also existed with kubuntu 10.04. Looks like I'm running 4:4.5.4-0ubuntu1~maverick1~ppa1 KDE package versions.

Is there a bug open on this (and where)?

Otherwise, what can I offer to assist debugging this?

Bugs can be opened at bugs.kde.org. I suggest checking under a new user to see if their instances causes this when switched from, and removing applets one by one until it no longer occurs.
